I’m teaming up with some of my favorite bloggers for a monthly Mason Jar Challenge. This month is all about Fall.

Fall is my absolute favorite Season, not only for decorating, but just in general.

There is something about living in New England and the change of Seasons that really makes it special.

You can’t beat the fall foliage, not to mention just about every weekend from now until November has a craft fair-which is my happy place!

Check out this picture I took of a local bridge in New Hampshire last year, so you will understand what I mean about the fall foliage:

Isn’t that just stunning? This is only about 30 minutes from my house and views like this are all over New Hampshire in the Fall.

So I say bring on Fall!

Supplies needed for Scarecrow Mason Jars Our Crafty Mom

Easy To Make Scarecrow Mason Jar

Let me show you how easy it is to make these adorable mason jar Scarecrows and what you need for supplies.

Welcome Fall Mr & Mrs Scarecrow

Supplies

  • Mason Jars-I will say if I make more of these, I would definitely buy plain mason jars without any raised embossing. They still worked fine, but I think the plain glass would show the face better. You can find mason jars at the Dollar Store or any craft stores.
  • Hot Glue Gun-My absolute favorite is the Surebonder Cordless Glue Gun which you can find here. If you craft a lot it is a game changer. The fact that it is cordless makes it so easy to use. Plus it shuts off automatically if you don’t use it in 30 minutes. I can’t tell you how many times I left a glue gun plugged in overnight-not cool!
  • Scrap Burlap-You can pick up extra wide burlap ribbon at craft stores that would work as well, but I picked up 1/2 yard at the craft store as I like to have it on hand in case inspiration strikes.
  • Buttons for the eyes
  • Sharpie Paint Pen-My favorite one to use you can find here. I’ve been using them pretty much since they came out and they don’t run or bleed. I even used them to stencil on pillows shown here.
  • Raffia-I didn’t have any, so I pulled strands of burlap to use. I would definitely use raffia though as it is much easier and is a nicer contrast to the burlap.
  • Acrylic Paint-I went with a taupe color as it looked like a Fall color, but you can use whatever color you like.
  • Sunflower

Paint Mason Jars

Give the mason jars two to three solid coats of paint-letting them dry in between.

The picture above shows two coats, but I did end up adding a third coat as it was showing streaks.

You could definitely use chalk paint if you want as it might have better coverage.

Burlap Fabric

Burlap Scrap

Cut Burlap To Size

The easiest way to add the burlap is to fold the burlap in half and hold it around the mason jar then snip where it should end both width and length, then cut.

Use a double piece so it is not too transparent. Plus it makes it easier to add the hot glue.

Just run hot glue along the side of the burlap where it will meet with the mason jar.

Burlap Strands For Hair

Add Raffia Or Burlap Strands

Add as much raffia or burlap strands to the scarecrows.

For the Mrs. Scarecrow I actually braided pieces of burlap to give her braids.

It was a good way to identify her as the Mrs!

Add buttons and flowers or whatever else you would like to your Mason Jar Scarecrows.

The Mrs has eyelashes and a little too much blush.

Have fun with it and get the kids involved too.

Wouldn’t it be cute to have a family of them lining a window sill?

Aside from the paint drying they took only about 45 minutes to make.

Plus they are very inexpensive too costing just a few dollars each with supplies.
