Welcome to the January Pinterest Challenge Blog Hop, hosted by My Pinterventures. The purpose of this Pinterest Challenge is to motivate all the participants of this hop (and you too) to not just pin, but to make it happen! This month, I chose to make a pretty farmhouse barnwood picture frame that has a chalkboard look for my living room. Here is the pin I first saw on Pinterest:
I loved the look of the reclaimed wood against the chalkboard and the pretty wreath just stepped it up a notch. When I was browsing the craft store clearance section, I stumbled upon this gorgeous barnwood wreath:
It didn’t have any glass or backing but the wood was gorgeous and the best part was the price! Check this out:
Can you believe it was only $7.49? Plus it is a large size of 18″ x 18″, which really makes a statement. Now I needed to come up with some way to make a chalkboard to fit in the frame. I had planned to buy chalkboard vinyl, but when I was in the picture frame section, I saw they were selling frame backings.

They had a black backing that actually looked like chalkboard for just a few dollars. It was secured with a few staples to the wood. Next up, I thought about making an embroidery hoop wreath to attach to this art, but then inspiration struck!
Decocrated, a home subscription box, sent me their Winter Box to review and it had the most beautiful galvanized metal wreath inside:
Isn’t it gorgeous? It fit perfectly in the frame and I love how the metal pops against the black. If you haven’t checked out Decocrated yet, you definitely should! It is a quarterly subscription box that is filled with home decor items. Look at this adorable wood block set. One side says Bless this Home and the other says Let It Snow:
It was seriously like Christmas opening this box and it was chock full with goodies. Look at the olive bucket and table runner it came with as well:
The Spring Box will be coming out soon and I can’t wait to see what will be in it! To attach the metal wreath to the frame, I just used a thumb tack.
To finish it off, I used Chalk Couture to add the hello greeting. I hung it in the entryway of my living room, so it greets friends and family as they enter.

I love this idea and I am currently redecorating my home now that Christmas is all over and done with. My mantle is cleared and I'm ready to start adding to it so I've been looking up new ideas to try. I really like this one because it looks like something I can definitely do at home and probably use some of that pallet wood I have at home to make a little frame. Thanks for sharing this!
