Tips on how to style a small front porch
My front porch is small, but that doesn’t stop me from adding seasonal and holiday decor. One of the staple pieces for my front porch is a deacons bench that I refinished several years ago.
It fits perfectly at the top of the porch steps, and the seat lifts for storage. I keep gardening tools and supplies for outdoors in it, so it’s very convenient.
All it takes is a spring pillow and throw to welcome spring to the porch. Of course, the adorable bunny helps too!
In case you missed it, I love sweet little bunnies for spring and Easter.
Add lanterns decorated for spring
Another staple in my porch decor are lanterns. They can be used in so many different ways. An adorable ceramic bunny and Easter eggs decorate this farmhouse style metal lantern.
It is not anywhere near warm enough in New England to have real plants or flowers yet. In fact, I had to clean off snow and ice to get this porch ready.
That meant I couldn’t add any real spring flowers, so I went with faux to add pops of color to this early spring porch.
As soon as mother’s day arrives, I switch the silk flowers out for real plants. It’s something I look forward to all winter!
Isn’t that bunny planter so cute? I found him at a local antique store last season.
Add a spring wreath to your front door
The first thing I change out on my front porch, for any season, is the front door wreath. It’s the first thing friends and family see, or nowadays, the Amazon or UPS delivery man or woman.
This tobacco basket spring wreath is one of my favorite craft projects yet. I fell in love with the sweet little straw bunny when I spotted him. He totally reminds me of Peter Rabbit!
Add a porch sign
Another easy DIY project you can incorporate into your porch decor is a wood porch sign. One of my simple tips is to make the sign double-sided. It saves on storage and money!
The backside says Be Merry, which I may have kept up a little too long this year.
If you don’t have room for a standing porch sign, consider adding a hanging wood sign, like the DIY pallet wood spring bunny sign.
Again, you can create another design on the back, and switch it out once spring is over. Wouldn’t a beautiful summer bouquet of flowers be pretty?
Layer decorative rugs
Add dimension and texture to your porch by layering two sizes of door mats. I keep the buffalo check rug out all year, and just top it with a smaller seasonal rug.
You can find really cute ones at the craft store for a great price-especially if you use a coupon.
Here are my 5 simple tips for styling a small front porch:
- Add a focal piece, like a chair or bench, if there is room.
- Bring in a seasonal throw and pillows for that cozy factor.
- Layer rugs for dimension and texture.
- Decorate with lanterns and seasonal decor.
- Add pops of color with flowers and plants.

Your porch looks so welcoming, Michelle! I can't wait until we can put real flowers outside, too. My mom always went by the same rule of thumb to wait until Mother's Day. I love the bunny in the galvanized lantern and your pretty wreath in the tobacco basket. Hope you get some mild weather soon! Pinned. It was fun hopping with you, my friend!
