Plastic Tablecloths DIY Wreaths

I’ll never forget taking a class when I was 18 yo and just absolutely loving it.

Something about putting your creative spin on an piece really spoke to me.

It was cool to see how a group of people could be given the same supplies for a wreath and no two would look alike.

That is one reason I love teaming up with my blogging buddies for this monthly challenge.

We stick to a theme and just run with it.

If you enjoy DIY wreaths, you can see all the wreaths I’ve shared here.

I really hope you enjoy this DIY sunflower wreath and once I share how it was made, I’ll tell you a few tips I have and what I would change for my next one.

How To Make A Sunflower Wreath Out Of Plastic Tablecloths

Supplies

Step 1.

Lay the plastic tablecloth on a flat surface exactly how it comes folded out of the package and cut strips about 1.5″ in width.

Step 2.

Repeat this process. You should end up with about 4-5 long strips.

Step 3.

Cut the strips in half lengthwise.

Step 4.

Cut a pointed tip on both ends of all the strips. It does not have to be perfect.

You just want a pointy edge.

Step 5.

Separate the strips and begin tying individual strips to the top wire of the wreath form.

In order to get the fullness, you do need to tie a single strip at a time.

Step 6.

Continue tying strips to each section.

Once the top row is done, repeat at the next metal ring. There are 4 rings total.

Step 7.

Continue tying and tying…at this point my finger were falling off, lol!

Step 8.

Once the entire wreath form is filled with individual plastic tablecloth strips, it’s time to fluff the wreath out.

Use your fingers and fluff the pieces. Then just turn it upside down and give it a little shake like you are shaking a tambourine!

Finished Plastic Tablecloth Wreath

At this point you can stop and you will have a pretty and bright sunshine yellow wreath.

But I wanted a sunflower wreath, so I took it a final step.

Step 9.

Add a piece of burlap to a round piece of scrap cardboard with hot glue and it instantly looks like a sunflower.

I will say if I had brown burlap I would have added that.

But this is all about using what you have and I always have natural burlap in my stash.

Make sure you don’t see any of the metal wreath frame.

Then just add a ribbon or twine for hanging and admire your handiwork (pun intended).

I’m absolutely in love with how it turned out.

My daughter and I both love sunflowers so this will be perfect to hang on our covered front porch door.

I do think it would be fine hanging on a front door, as it is plastic.

But I’m not sure it would hold up season after season if you add the burlap.

This really makes a great gift for Mother’s Day, birthdays, etc.

You can mix colors and make pretty themed wreaths. Imagine a daisy?

I think that would be fun.

Tips For Making A Plastic Tablecloth Wreath

While I’m very happy with the finished project, it took hours to finish.

I didn’t even want to add up how much time it took, but let’s just say I watched 3 episodes of Little Fires Everywhere and was still not done.

So be prepared to tie and tie and tie. Set yourself up with a good movie and maybe a glass of wine.

It’s certainly not difficult at all, just time consuming.

That being said, I think there are some shortcuts you can make.

Instead of tying on all four rings of the wreath, I believe you can cut longer strips and tie them around two rings at once, so you are cutting the time in half.

I do plan to try this as I really want a red, white and blue one for the Fourth of July.

I will let you know if that works.

Also, I would recommend just completing a section at a time.

I was under time constraints, and of course was last minute, so I had to complete it in two days.

But if you take your time with it and do a little at a time you will be fine.

Also, I have pretty bad arthritis in my hand so that was another reason why it was so difficult.

Hey, it happens at my age, lol. The fact that I already plan to make another tablecloth wreath tells you it wasn’t that bad.

If you do try it and you have any tips for us, please share in the comments below.

Hi Monique. The burlap is the center of the sunflower. I show it first without and then towards the end I show it with the burlap. 😀
