Tips on How to Paint Terracotta Pots
Here are some tips for painting terracotta pots.
- Clean and Dry the Pots First: Remove dust, dirt, and any price stickers. Let them dry completely before painting to help the paint adhere better.
- Prime for Best Results: Apply a coat of primer (especially if using light colors) to prevent the porous surface from soaking up paint and to help colors stay vibrant.
- Use Acrylic or Outdoor Paint: Choose durable paints like acrylic craft paint or outdoor-specific paint to withstand moisture and weather if placing outdoors.
- Seal Inside and Out: Apply a clear sealant on both the inside and outside of the pot to protect the paint and prevent moisture from damaging your design.
- Let Each Layer Dry Completely: Allow each coat of paint to fully dry before adding another layer or detail to avoid smudging and uneven coverage.
