Let’s Add That Cozy Factor!
There is nothing better than feeling that first bit of crisp air in September, or seeing the leaves begin to turn that perfect color of orange, rust or burgundy.
When it’s time to transition from summer to fall inside my home, I just look outside my window for inspiration!
Today I wanted to share 5 tried and true decorating elements that are easy to incorporate in your own home.
The good news is you can follow these same tips for any season. Just change out the colors and materials for the season you are decorating.
An example would be, instead of adding plush blankets for fall and winter, swap them out for lighter throws for spring and summer.
Comfy Throws and Pillows
One of the first things I do with each new season (after changing my front door wreath) is swap out the pillows and throws.
Here are some beautiful #LowesFinds that are calling my name! The pet-friendly blanket would help keep pet hair at bay and I’m obsessed with the lovely autumn vibes in the plaid throw.

- Reversible Natural Cotton Throw
- Leopard White Cotton Throw
- Soft Cream Pet Blanket
- Gorgeous Mustard Color Throw
- Spice Plaid Fall Blanket Throw
Decorative Pillows
I’ve talked about my pillow obsession several times.
Following my favorite tip below helps saves on storage and is easier on the budget.
Quick tip: when purchasing seasonal or holiday pillows, purchase pillow covers in the same size to cover your pillow forms. A 20×20 or 18×18 are the perfect size throw pillows for most sofas or chairs.

- Toss Pillow with Tassels
- Blue Chinoiserie Style Toss Pillow
- Colorful Fall Indoor Decorative Pillow
- Bohemian Style Toss Pillow
- Plaid Toss Pillow in Warm Colors
Area Rugs
If you want to completely change the look of a space without any renovations, adding a new area rug is the way to go.
They can be budget-friendly, depending upon the size that you need. Plus, now you can purchase washable Ruggable rugs at Lowe’s.
I’ve had an 8×10 Ruggable for many years and it has held up well, even with cats and repeated washings.
I’m obsessed with the warm earth tones of the rug below and think it would be wonderful in a home office.

The rug on the right has a cozy cottage vibe to it that would work in just about any space, no matter the decor style.
Lighting and Candles
Raise your hand if you light candles year-round. 🙋♀️ Fall scented candles are my favorite, but I found a new way to enjoy them without an open flame.
My sister bought me a Candle Warmer Lamp and I am hooked. No more worrying about the cats knocking them over, or forgetting to blow them out at night.
The warmer lamps have a timer so you can set it and forget it. The brightness can also be adjusted. This will be one of the gifts I am giving out during the holiday season.
If you haven’t tried one yet, I highly recommend it. Plus, they have different styles and colors.

Candles and Candle Holders
Reading Nooks and Books
Now it’s time to really create a spot that you can unwind and relax in. Why not make a reading nook in your home?
You don’t need a large space to do so. Just a little corner or spot you can add a chair, lighting for reading and a table for a drink and a book.

Bring in Nature
Lastly, bring in touches of nature. If you are not a plant person, start easy with succulents and hardy plants such as snake plants and fiddle leaf figs.

Cozy Home Accessories
You can see how my warm and comfy mid-century modern living came to life with a mix of textures and vibrant colors. The furniture is velvet, perfect for that cozy factor!

This one room includes all 5 elements in a cozy home:
- Throws and Pillows
- Lighting and Candles
- Area Rug for Warmth
- Reading Area
- Plants
The area rug not only looks aesthetically pleasing, but it also anchors the furniture. Not to mention, it adds softness and warmth to the cold hardwood floors.
Lighting includes a floor lamp for soft lighting, wall sconces for ambient lighting, candles and a fireplace for both romantic lighting and warmth.
