If you are visiting from my sweet friend Kelly from The Tattered Pew welcome.
She has such a lovely home and the natural elements that she used in her fall decorating really give such a cozy fall feel.
I love to bring in nature whenever possible. It looks gorgeous and it’s a free way to decorate!
A little About Our Crafty Mom
If you are a new visitor, thanks so much for stopping by. My name is Michelle and I’m so glad you’re here!
A lifelong New Englander, I moved to New Hampshire 5 years ago after spending most of my life in Rhode Island.
I’m all about simple crafts, inexpensive home decorating ideas, and easy recipes.
Fall is absolutely my favorite season. I take inspiration from the gorgeous shades of autumn right outside my door.
Here is a favorite picture I took a few years ago during peak fall foliage season:
This bridge is actually on my daughter’s college campus. Can you imagine walking by that to go to class each day? 🙂
Living Room Fall Decor
Today I’m featuring living room fall decorating ideas, as well as simple outdoor decor for a small porch or balcony.
Let’s start with the living room. We just moved a few months ago and I’ve been enjoying decorating with a more modern style.
I’ve always loved faux sheepskin rugs but never had the right space for one – until now!
This beauty anchors the coffee table that I scored on FB Marketplace for $60!
They do sell a similar metal and wood style HERE.
One of the easiest ways to update a living room for any season is to add decorative throw pillows.
If you follow me on Instagram you probably know I have a slight pillow obsession! Tell me I’m not the only one.
Quick tip: save on storage space and money by buying pillow covers instead of the entire pillow.
Just pick up pillow forms and purchase the same size seasonal covers.
Then you can just switch them out. Easy peasy. The covers can be kept folded in a linen closet and take up very little space.
Experiment with colors and textures with pillows and throws. Things you might not think of pairing together may actually work!
A cozy fall throw is always a must and I “fell in love” with the super soft Rae Dunn throw I spotted at HomeGoods.
Do you see that darling pumpkin pillow? That is a Pottery Barn dupe I’ll be sharing next week. Be sure to come back for the super simple DIY!
Fall Coffee Table Decor
Because we use this living room space for watching television, I had to keep the coffee table decor simple.
We can’t obstruct the view! Especially with Hocus Pocus 2 coming out on September 30th! 🙂
A few DIY velvet pumpkins and faux eucalyptus garland are all that’s needed for a pretty autumn display.
I also couldn’t resist the leather and leopard pumpkins that were a Dollar Tree find.
Aren’t they just darling?
Fall Shelf Decor
Have you seen the wood and metal hanging shelves? They are trending on Pinterest and match my coffee table perfectly!
When decorating shelves I tend to decorate using the “rules of threes”.
You can read all about it on Apartment Therapy HERE.
Basically, it means that things arranged in odd numbers are more visually appealing. Try it and see what you think!
My shelf is from Decocrated Home Decor Subscription Box. If you haven’t checked them out yet, they are a decorator lovers’ dream!
You can also save $15 with my code CRAFTYMOM15. Learn more about Decocrated in my fall home tour from last year.
Outdoor Fall Decorating
Next up, we move out to our small balcony which is right off the living room. Don’t let a small porch keep you from decorating for the season.
All you need are 4 items to add that wow factor to an otherwise plain space.
- A festive wreath
- Colorful mums
- Pumpkins
- Seasonal rug
Traditional fall colors pop against the plain white door.
Our balcony is covered so I was able to add a fabric rug, but it is also washable. The pumpkin decor is super cute!
You can never go wrong with a classic orange pumpkin.
Quick tip: to make your uncarved pumpkins last longer and keep critters away spray your entire pumpkin including the top stem with good old aerosol hairspray.
You know like us 80’s girls used in high school? Hello Aqua Net!
The smell of the hairspray will help keep critters away and preserve the pumpkin at the same time.
An uncarved pumpkin should last the entire fall season depending upon your climate.
However, once carved it will only last anywhere from 3-14 days. It’s best to save carving for just before Halloween.
The last thing I added was a fall wood sign. It was a last-minute thrift store find. Porch signs are another great seasonal item.
If you want to make your own, check out my easy wood porch sign tutorial.
I hope you enjoyed my festive fall decor. Thank you for joining us for the Celebrate Fall home tours.
The next stop is my talented blogging friend Patti from Hearth and Vine.
She’s sharing beautiful fall door decor. I’ve seen a peak and you don’t want to miss this!
