It’s time for this month’s Thrift Store Decor Tour with a few of my blogging friends. Be sure to read to the bottom of this post to see all of the thrifty makeovers.
I’ve been finding some great treasures at my local Goodwill the past couple of visits. This month I spotted a set of three large glass globe lights for just $5.
My mind was spinning with ideas. I saved one for a Christmas craft, but the first thing I thought of was they would make cute ghosts.
This is a super simple craft with just a few supplies needed. My favorite type of projects.
Supplies for Upcycled Halloween Ghost Lights
These are the supplies I used for these cute little ghosts.
- Glass Light Shades – you can normally find these at thrift store, yard sales, or even from your old ceiling fan!
- White Chalk Paint
- Foam Paint Brush
- Black Paint Pen
- Optional Embellishments – I made the witch hat using black poster board and some ribbon I had in my stash.
- Battery Operated Lights – you can use tea lights, fairy lights, or even small battery-operated votives.
Tips on Painting Glass Globes
The first thing you want to do is clean the glass globes to remove any fingerprints or grime.
Next up, paint the glass with 2 coats of chalk paint. Let dry.
Draw a Ghost Face
Paint pens make it easy to add a ghost face. I used the same process to make DIY ghost mugs. You can make oval eyes, or go with round. It helps to look at Pinterest to get some ideas.
Add Embellishments to Your Ghost
This is where you can get creative with your little ghosts. I love the addition of the witch hat. It steps up the cuteness factor.
Add lights under the ghosts and enjoy the soft glow at night. I will add a photo showing the ghosts at night with the lights.
These can be added to your mantel, buffet table or anywhere you want a bit of Halloween decor.
