How to Decorate Your Mantel for Spring
Mantels are a great way to show off your personality and style, and they’re the perfect place to add a touch of spring decor.
Whether you’re looking for some simple ideas or want to try something more creative, these 5 simple tips will help you create a mantel that’s perfect for the season.
Step 1. Choose a Color Scheme
The first thing you want to do is choose a color scheme.
If you like neutral decor consider a farmhouse style mantel.
You can still welcome spring without pastels.
Experiment with different looks to find what you like the best.
The main thing is to have fun with it.
Each year I try to challenge myself to come up with different looks for my mantel. Another thing I try to do is “shop my house”.
After many years of decorating and collecting, you never know what you may find in storage or packed away for a special occasion. Take it out and enjoy it. 🙂
Step 2. Use Fresh or Faux Flowers or Plants
You can never go wrong by bringing a touch of greenery to your mantel. Fresh spring flowers add instant warmth and a pop of color.
Plus, you can easily find pretty bouquets at the grocery store (especially Trader Joe’s)!
If you’d rather use faux, you can find realistic options at the craft store.

Step 3. Hang Seasonal Artwork or Photos
An easy way to decorate your mantel for spring is to hang seasonal artwork or photos. You can keep costs down by making your own DIY signs like this pallet wood bunny sign.
The pastel colors set the stage for a colorful and fun spring mantel.
Another budget-friendly idea is to decorate your mantel with free spring printables.
Print out different sizes and add them to frames or wood houses for instant art!
Decorating with old windows is one of my favorites for any season.
Hang a wreath on the window that you can change out quickly and easily.
Vintage windows are the perfect size to hang over a mantel.
You can usually find them at yard sales, flea markets, and sometimes even curbside!
Step 4. Display Items That Have Personal Meaning
Do you have a collection of items that you’d like to display?
Mason jars, ironstone pitchers, and milk glass are some of my favorite things to decorate with.
Place spring birds, decorative eggs, and other seasonal decor in your collection for a fresh springtime look!
Step 5. Add a touch of whimsy with fun accessories or decorations
Create a playful mantel with whimsical spring decorations. My daughter LOVES all things “cottage core”.
Have you heard of this latest decorating trend that’s all over Pinterest?
What is cottage core?
It’s basically a design trend that emphasizes a comfy, cozy, country cottage-style decor.
Let me tell you, mushrooms are all the rage!
So when she spotted this whimsical mushroom banner when we were shopping recently she bought it for her bedroom, but then surprised me and added it to our spring mantel.
The soft spring colors blend perfectly with the pastel egg banner we found the same day.
Banners are a great addition to any mantel. Create paper banners, tissue paper banners, even fabric banners.
Decorating a mantel with a “big black box” aka television over it can be challenging.
But in the spirit of compromise sometimes it’s necessary.
While thinking about a way to distract from the television screen, I instead decided to just go with it.
I finally figured out how to upload pretty screensavers and spent a little too much time finding some really cool ones!
This Happy Easter scrabble graphic is a favorite. Have you tried this yet? It’s slightly addictive!
Here’s just one more of beautiful cherry blossoms:
