Lampshade Makeover with Peel and Stick Wallpaper
Peel and stick wallpaper isn’t just for walls! It’s a versatile decorating tool that can be used to give furniture, lampshades, shelves, trays, and other home accessories a quick and budget-friendly makeover.
Step 1. Remove the Lampshade
Start by removing the shade from the base. Mine was extremely simple as it had clips along the top and bottom.
It also had velcro on the sides, so I was able to open it completely to give it a makeover.

Like so many of you, I love all things chinoiserie, so I chose to use a beautiful chinoiserie peel and stick wallpaper for this DIY.
Step 2. Cut Wallpaper to Size
Next up, place the wallpaper on to the lampshade and cut a piece to size. My wallpaper measured 17″ x144″ so I have plenty leftover for more projects!

Step 3. Attach Wallpaper to Lampshade
Peel and stick wallpaper is very simple to use. If you are new to the process, you may also want to check out this living room wallpaper tutorial or this peel and stick wallpaper feature wall.
The best tip I have for you is to work slowly by pulling the adhesive backing down as you smooth out any wrinkles.
The great thing is, you can easily lift the wallpaper up and start over if you have too many wrinkles, or if it is uneven.
Step 4. Add Trim or Ribbon
The final step is to add trim or ribbon around the edges. This is an optional step, but I love the added dimension it gives.
You can use fabric adhesive or a hot glue gun to secure the trim.

That’s all there is to it. This entire process took about 20 minutes to complete, less if you do not want any trim.
It’s also an extremely budget-friendly way to makeover an old lampshade.
This is my favorite reading chair and now I have good lighting in this spot. Plus, it looks so much prettier and pairs beautifully with my favorite chinoiserie throw pillow.
