Buffalo Check Home Decor

Have you been into Hobby Lobby, JoAnn Fabric and Crafts or Homegoods lately?

The fall stuff is out already and I was thrilled to see black and white buffalo check everywhere.

I’m talking pumpkins, table runners, and tablecloths just to name a few.

I fell in love with buffalo check in home decor last year when I participated in a Fall Home Tour with some of my favorite bloggers.

I am very careful about decorating on a budget, so I made a mental note to incorporate buffalo check the next time I needed new curtains.

Well, that time is now-yay!

Easy No Sew Buffalo Check Curtains

My daughter and I just moved to a new Townhouse which means I have new rooms to decorate!

Now, remember I mentioned a budget?

New curtains can be pricey, but making your own is an easy and inexpensive way to update your home decor.

The first thing I did was go to Hobby Lobby and buy navy and white buffalo check fabric.

It is a duck cloth fabric and is really good quality.

It was $9.99 a yard, but I used a 40% off coupon. I bought 4 yards for $24.

Not only was I able to make curtains for my kitchen and dining room, but I have plenty leftover to make those adorable buffalo check pumpkins I mentioned, plus a couple of table runners.

So… are you ready to see how to make these buffalo check curtains?

No Sew Drapery Panels

Measure your window to determine the width and length of your fabric.

I found that 1.5  yards are a good size to fit a standard size window with a 63″ length.

When you go to have the fabric cut, make sure you let them know you plan to make drapery panels, so they cut the yardage the correct way.

Simply lay the fabric lengthwise on a table with it folded in half and you can just cut on the fold.

It saves time and both panels will be the same size.

Fold about 1/4″ on all sides and iron on the fold.

Then use the fabric glue to create a nice, crisp edge.

Once your curtain rod is hung with the drapery clips, simply attach the curtain panels.

I have used this method on several different styles of curtains and I love how simple they are.

DIY Buffalo Check Window Valance

This adorable window valance is my favorite.

Simply fold the fabric in half and cut it to about halfway down the window.

Fold one side over the curtain rod.

Then add the jute webbing to each side folding the curtain up as you go.

I used a little fabric adhesive to secure the webbing.

These took seriously about 15 minutes to make!
