How to Make a Gnome Wine Bottle Topper
Step 1. Cut the felt or ribbon for the hat
Cut out a square of red felt (I used ribbon) about 4″x4″ for the gnome hat. Fold it over to form a triangle.
Run a bead of hot glue along the felt and press to secure. These glue gun silicone finger caps work wonders to save your fingertips.
Step 2. Attach a pompom to gnome hat
Cut a small piece of sherpa fabric and fold it in half.
Add a dab of hot glue to the tip of the gnome hat and secure the sherpa pompom.
Step 3. Cut faux fur for the gnome beard
There are a couple of tips I’ve learned for cutting faux fur. It’s important to cut the end of the fur using a razor blade or craft knife on just the top backing layer.
If you use scissors and just cut across the faux fur it will look like the cute little gnome has a bowl cut!
Then just fluff the beard and brush out any loose fur.
Step 4. Glue the fur to the wine cork
There are 2 different ways you can proceed. If you are decorating with the gnome bottle topper you can use a wine cork and an empty bottle of wine as I show in the step below.
If you are planning on giving a bottle of wine with the gnome topper as Christmas gifts, you can proceed to Step 5.
Simply run a bead of hot glue across the cork and secure the beard.
Hold it closed for a minute or two until it is secure.
Step 5. Glue the gnome hat onto the beard
Next up, add hot glue to the bottom inside of the hat and secure it to the beard.
Step 6. Attach trim for Santa hat
Cut a narrow strip of sherpa fabric and hot glue it to the Santa hat for the trim.
Step 7. Place the Santa jacket on the wine bottle and add the nose
The final step for this adorable holiday craft is to place the Santa jacket on the wine bottle and place the hat on top.
If you are using the wine cork, put that back in place.
Glue the nose below the hat and your gnome bottle topper is complete!
I’m so thrilled with how this adorable little gnome turned out.
For a hostess gift, I simply added a bottle of wine and a gnome topper to a pretty woven basket with faux pine greenery.
A dollar store snowflake and gnome ribbon were added to the front of the basket for pretty embellishments.
Once the bottle is empty, the gnome can be used as Christmas decor to enjoy year after year!
