Learn how to make a fun DIY pineapple jar planter from a dollar store glass jar and paint.
Hello and welcome to Our Crafty Mom. The Dollar Store Divas are back featuring DIY Spring crafts using dollar store supplies.
Be sure to read to the end of this post to see what Spring crafts they are sharing. Whenever I go to the dollar store I very rarely have a project in mind.
I may have a specific season or holiday that I’m shopping for, but I pretty much just browse the aisles and wait for inspiration to strike.
Last month while looking for supplies for our St. Patrick’s Day craft, I stumbled upon this textured glass jar in the section with mason jars:
It had a really cool look to it and I figured I’d use it in my bathroom to hold cotton balls or q-tips. I very rarely pass up glass jars. They can be used for so many different things.
One of my favorite glass jar crafts that I just finished was this DIY decoupage chinoiserie vase. While inspiration didn’t strike at the store, it totally struck the moment I got home.
My friend, Maria from Simple Nature Decor sent me this pineapple pillow last summer:
I immediately took out the jar and realized that it totally looked like a pineapple! Do you see it? Pineapples and lemons are fun to decorate with in Spring and Summer.
These DIY pineapple flour sack towels from a few years ago are still a favorite of mine. So now that I had a project in place, I got to work.
Here is what you need to make your own pineapple jar planter.
Supplies Needed For DIY Pineapple Jar
- Glass Jar
- DecoArt Americana Paint – Yellow Ochre
- DecoArt Metallic Paint Crystal Green
- Small Paint Brush
- Foam Brush
Step 1.
Paint the entire glass jar with two coats of the yellow paint.
Step 2.
Once dry, use a small paint brush to outline the raised pattern with brown paint.
Step 3.
Touch up the yellow paint to cover any of the brown.
Step 4.
Paint the mason jar lid with two coats of green paint.

Step 5.
Add a pretty plant to the finished pineapple planter. I plan to add a real aloe plant once they are available in my area. For now, I added a faux plant that looked a little like a pineapple top.

Great projects. Nothing says welcome better than pineapples. The pillow would be fun and happy on my porch to greet guests. Pinning. Happy spring, Kippi

Hi Michelle, Oh I love your pineapple jar! It looks great with your faux plant in it, but I'll bet your aloe plant will really look awesome in it! Stay healthy and safe!

I have not seen these jars at my Dollar Tree but I am going to look at all of the stores I visit. I hope I find one. I love the pineapple!
