Patriotic Dollar Tree Craft
If you follow me on social media, you know I’m a huge fan of Dollar Tree crafts. Their expanded craft section has so many great finds, and it’s still tough to beat the prices, even with the recent increases. That said, I definitely miss the good old dollar days!
I popped into Dollar Tree this weekend for one thing and, as usual, ended up browsing the Crafter’s Square section.
They now carry ceramic “blanks” that are perfect for Cricut projects and my favorite Mod Podge crafts. Have you seen these at your local Dollar Tree yet?
The ceramic plates were just the right size for the patriotic printables I shared last week, so I picked up a couple.
Here is what you need to make your own.
Supplies
- Ceramic Platters: Dollar Tree has a new line of blanks that are perfect for decoupage crafts.
- White Paint: I used Folk Art Home Decor Chalk Paint, but you can use any white paint you have on hand.
- Foam Paint Brush: foam brushes are great to have in your craft stash for quick projects.
- Mod Podge: Dollar Tree carries 2 oz bottles, or you can get a larger bottle on Amazon.
- Patriotic Printables: download my free set of 4th of July printables.

Instructions for Patriotic Dollar Tree Craft
There is nothing better than a quick, easy and pretty craft and these patriotic plates checks all the boxes. You can make them in about 20 minutes, minus drying time.
Step 1. Remove the Label
Start by removing the label using goo gone if needed. Also use a wet cloth to remove any dust.

Step 2. Paint the Ceramic Platters
Dollar Tree labels these as ceramic platters, however they measure 4″x4″ so they are not serving platters, but more the size of salad plates.
Use your foam brush to paint both sides of the plates. Let dry.

Step 3. Add Mod Podge and Printables
Trim your printables to size. Add mod podge directly to the back of the print and carefully secure it to the plate.
Quick tip: use a plastic bag to smooth out wrinkles. This is especially helpful if using napkins as it helps avoid tearing.
I’m a huge fan of decoupage crafts and have several tutorials that you may want to check out. Here are a few favorites:
Step 4. Add a Top Coat of Mod Podge
Cover the plates with a top coat of mod podge. I used 2 coats in a matte finish. You can also seal them with a clear sealer.

That’s all there is to it! Beautiful and festive ceramic plates that you can use in so many different ways. Make some for each season and create a set of 4 to gift for the holidays. Wouldn’t they make sweet teacher gifts?
Ways to Use Dollar Tree Ceramic Platters
- Jewelry Tray – Use a small ceramic platter on your dresser or vanity to hold rings, earrings, bracelets, and watches.
- Candle Display – Add a battery-operated candle, faux greenery, and seasonal accents.
- Soap and Lotion Holder – This is just the right size to place by the kitchen or bathroom sink to catch soap dispensers and hand lotion while protecting countertops from drips.
- DIY Decor Base – Use as personalized seasonal decor on a hutch or book shelf, tiered tray accents, or handmade gifts. You can also pick up a plate stand to display this pretty plate anywhere you want a bit of patriotic decor.
