Hello, friends! I am super excited to share this next project with you.
You may have seen on Facebook I’ve been working on creating a cozy retreat on my small balcony.
The first project was planting beautiful and colorful flowers in the flower pots on my vertical garden.
Next up, I wanted to set up a seating area with a small table perfect for my morning iced coffee.
Decoupage With Fabric
On my last visit to see my dad I spotted this old table in his trash pile. The size was perfect, I liked the wrought iron legs and the price was right!
The top was in rough shape but nothing a little mod podge and fabric couldn’t fix.
I’m a huge fan of decoupage. Be sure to check out my collection of decoupage crafts and DIY projects for tons of inspiration.
After seeing this post with 13 DIY flamingo decor ideas from Kathy with Petticoat Junktion, I was inspired to use flamingo fabric for my table top.
Look at the adorable pink flamingo fabric I found for under $2!
There is a printable DIY card at the bottom of this post to make it easy for you, but I’ll share a few tips first.
Here is what you need to decoupage fabric to a table.
Supplies
- Pink Flamingo Fabric – mine is from Michaels Craft Store. It was $1.99 with 40% off!
- Fabric Scissors
- DecoArt White Chalk Paint
- Mod Podge
- Foam Brush
- Thrift Store Table
How to Decoupage a Table Top with Fabric
The first thing you want to do is give your furniture piece a good cleaning. A little dish soap and hot water works great.
Next up is painting the table top with white chalk paint.
Because the table top is being covered with fabric you don’t technically have to paint it, but it will have brighter finish if you paint it.
One coat of white paint is all you need. Now place the fabric on top of the table for measuring.
Cut the Fabric to Size
Just mark where you need to cut the fabric and use fabric scissors to cut it.
Add a Coat of Mod Podge
Use a foam brush to paint a layer of mod podge directly to the table.
Place the fabric onto the table and smooth out any wrinkles.
Fold the fabric ends under the table and trim any excess.
This DIY project took under an hour start to finish!
Because I am using this table to hold drinks, it’s important to add 2-3 top coats of mod podge to the top.
That’s all there is to it! A freebie table updated for summer with adorable and playful pink flamingos. It looks just darling on my balcony!
Flamingo Table on Summer Balcony
Of course, I had to run with the pink flamingo theme by adding the cutest flamingo pillow covers and pink chair cushions.
I’ll be sharing the finished summer balcony Wednesday and have a few more surprises to share with you. Please come back for a visit!
