I’m sharing these DIY donut Christmas ornaments as part of my countdown to Christmas ornament craft ideas.

I  kicked it off last week with adorable gnome Christmas ornaments.

You may sense a theme emerging-perhaps a bakery or sweet treats theme for my Christmas tree this year? If so, you would be right!

I’m still figuring out what direction it’s going in, but I can tell you there will be lots of pastel colors with several DIY sweet treats ornaments.

Each year I host a Christmas tree decorating blog tour with 20 super talented home decor bloggers.

Supplies Needed For Donut Ornaments

STEP 1.

Cut the Pool Noodle

Use the craft knife to cut the pool noodle.

If you are an impatient crafter like me you can eyeball it. It’s about 3/4″-1″.

Use the first donut as a template so your ornaments are the same size.

STEP 2.

Add Paint to the Spackle

Decide what color you want the donut frosting to be.

I went with white so I added white acrylic paint to the spackle.

The spackle is not a bright white.

It is more of a gray that wasn’t really appealing, so the paint helped lighten it up.

You can add brown paint for chocolate frosting, pink for strawberry, etc.

Just keep adding paint and stirring it until it is the color you like.

STEP 3.

Add Frosting to the Donut

Next up, you want to add the paint and spackle mixture to the top of the donut.

You can use a craft stick or even a plastic knife.

You don’t want it to be too thick. Just give it a nice, even coat.

STEP 4.

Next up, you want to add the sprinkles to the frosting while the spackle is still wet.

Aren’t these pastel stars perfect for a pastel-themed tree?

There are so many pretty colors and shapes that you can use for sprinkles.

I even saw gold ones that would look cool on pink donuts.

Once you add the sprinkles use a toothpick to remove any frosting from the middle of the donut.

STEP 5.

Let the Spackle Dry

It’s best to let the spackle dry overnight.

Isn’t it just adorable? I can see these on a tabletop sweet treats tree in a kid’s bedroom or playroom.

It would be perfect on a nightstand.

STEP 6.

Add a Hook for Hanging

All you need is a hook for hanging. I went with a paper clip.

Just bend one end and push through the top and backside of the ornament.

Step 7.

Seal with Clear Acrylic Spray

Finish the ornament by spraying it with a clear sealant.

I still have to do this, but it will help secure the frosting and sprinkles, plus it will give it a nice shine.
